POTTSTOWN >> This week’s pop-up outdoor farmers market will be extra special with live music, a 5K race and children’s nutrition incentive.
New this year, the Pottstown & Artisan Regional Market, FARM for short, will have a variety of cool activities every last Thursday of the month for their “Almost Fridays” events. This week is the first time for the monthly festivity which will have live music, a beer garden and more. The action starts Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. near the 200 block of E. High St.
In addition to visiting local vendor tables, the community will have the opportunity to partake in several other healthy activities.
5K RUN TO THE MARKET
People will literally run to the market during the 5K PDIDA race. The run begins 6:30 p.m. at Riverfront Park, 140 College Drive, and people will end at the Pottstown FARM market. The first 100 people that register for the race will receive a raffle ticket for an iPad Air, a FARM market bag, a T-shirt and one beer for those 21 and over. Same-day registration opens at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $25 for those 18 and above. Proceeds will benefit downtown Pottstown improvements. Find out more about the race and register at www.pretzelcitysports.com or contact Torry Dugan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Children will have the chance to participate in the “Two-Bite Club” during each “Almost Friday” event. Kids will try the FARM product of the month then receive a $5 coin that can be used at the market. Products of the month will include healthy food choices such as fruits and vegetables.
FRESH DINING EXPERIENCE
Starting next month, ArtFusion 19464 will begin a “Dining Across the Street Dinner Series” as part of the market’s “Almost Fridays.” Beginning on July 27 and every last Thursday of the month after that during the market season, the nonprofit organization will have different chefs prepare a meal with fresh ingredients for people to enjoy. The nutritious meal will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. at the venue 107, located at 107 E. High St. The menu will change each month.
“The reason we coordinated it to be the last Thursday of the month is because Sly Fox will be there and there will be entertainment at Smith Family Plaza. We want people to come out, sit and relax while enjoying the music, the beer and wonderful food,” said Erika Hornburg-Cooper, ArtFusion 19464 executive director.
If people get to the dinner early at around 5 p.m. then they will have the chance to shop at the outdoor market along with that week’s chef. Tickets are $17.50 each and must be purchased in advance which can be done by visiting the ArtFusion website artfusion19464.org or contacting the organization at 610-326-2506.
The proceeds of the dinner will benefit ArtFusion’s Dirt to Tablecloth farm program which is part of the Beech Street Factory Community Programs. The community farm teaches students sustainable skills and engages in positive youth development. Hornburg-Cooper said money from the dinners will help support phase two of their programming which will include a culinary arts aspect and a student-run restaurant.
