Pottstown >> Lovers of Indian cuisine now have a place in Pottstown to call their own. Cuisine India has opened at 232 King Street.
The restaurant held a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Friday — and served lunch to a group of invited guests including Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Gale, Pottstown City Council President Daniel Weand and Pottstown Borough Manager Mark Flanders.
Cuisine India is owned by Sailaja Adluru and her husband, Dr. Ramesh Eluri. It is the first restaurant Adluru and Eluri have opened, but Adluru said a second Cuisine India is planned to open in the Oaks Shopping Center in early April.
“This is exactly the type of business we need in Pottstown,” Gale said on Friday. “We have several attractions in Pottstown — the Carousel, the Colebrookdale Railroad, Montgomery County Community College western campus. We have ‘hooks’ to bring people to the area. Restaurants like this give people a reason to stay — and come back.” He added that Cuisine India helps the economic growth of Pottstown.
“Welcome to town. This restaurant gives people another reason to come to Pottstown,” Weand said.
That sentiment was echoed by Flanders, who said the new restaurant is “a catalyst to say ‘this is the place to be.’”
Adluru purchased the King Street building, which has been a restaurant space before. Adluru’s team has been working for the past couple of months to get the restaurant space ready to open.
“Opening a restaurant is something we have wanted to do,” she said. Adluru and Eluri own several other properties in the area.
Cuisine India has seating inside for 34 customers, and Adluru said when the weather gets warmer, there will be seating outside behind the restaurant. She added that the restaurant has two chefs on staff cooking vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Tandoori specialties.
In addition to menu items, Adluru said Cuisine India plans to offer a buffet, which will feature soups, appetizers, meats, breads and desserts.
Cuisine India is open 7-days a week from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 4:30 to 9 p.m. For more information visit www.cuisineindia.net
