POTTSTOWN >> Take a walk by the riverside in the midst of fall for this week’s Mercury Mile at noon Wednesday.
The walk is the third and last event of the “Down by the River” series in partnership with the Schuylkill River Heritage Area. The series started in August and included monthly walk and talks along the Schuylkill River Trail. This week’s afternoon stroll will include a short 5-minute presentation about growing herbs indoors from Mosaic Pottstown community garden manager Laura Washington.
After the short talk, the group will take a mile-long walk on the trail. The walk and talk will begin from Pottstown Riverfront Park promptly at noon Wednesday. The park is located near the Schuylkill River Heritage Area building and the address is 140 College Drive. Participants are to meet near the park’s pavilion area.
The social walk is meant to allow area residents to come together and learn about local events and opportunities. The Schuylkill River Heritage Area is a national and state heritage area in southeastern Pennsylvania. The heritage area’s boundaries cover the Schuylkill watershed in the counties of Schuylkill, Berks, Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia. For more information, visit the website at www.schuylkillriver.org or the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SchuylkillRiverHeritageArea.
The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking and other fitness activities as a free exercise. The walk has travelled from one organization to the next encouraging people to walk at lunch and come together as a community.
