The Wellness Council of Boyertown in partnership with CrossFit Fidelity is also hosting a community field day at Hickory Park Saturday.

Jill Vincent, executive director of the Wellness Council of Boyertown, said the event is all about promoting health and wellness. The field day is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hickory Park. The address is 2140 Big Road, Gilbertsville. Starting at 10 a.m.; families will have the opportunity to play several games including tennis, beach ball volleyball, karate and more. There will also be food available such as Rita’s Water Ice and Philly Pretzels.

“I’m just excited to be about the health and wellness in Boyertown. And to create different activities, events and programs that are promoting a healthier town,” Vincent said.

The community event will also include a CrossFit workout beginning around 11 a.m. Vincent said she wanted to use this year’s field day as an opportunity to promote other healthy resources so decided to partner with CrossFit Fidelity of Boyertown. CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program that uses functional movements such as squatting, jumping and throwing.

The CrossFit Workout on Saturday will involve burpees, box jumps and more. The cost is $40 and people can register at The activity is part of the first Shatter the Stigma Fundraiser for Addiction Awareness. The proceeds will benefit renovations at CrossFit Fidelity as well as the Boyertown non-profit organization BrendaN’s BanD. The organization’s mission is to spread the word about addiction and recovery opportunities. The CrossFit activity will be done in memory of Brendan Traylor, who died from an accidental overdose in 2014.

“We’re really just trying to bring it out of the dark and into the light,” Vincent said speaking of the addiction.
