POTTSTOWN >> Take a walk on the East Side, of High Street that is, and then end the afternoon stroll with a meal at The Hill School’s last Mid-Day Cafe on Wednesday.

The weekly Hobart’s Run pop-up café features local musical entertainment and local food vendors. Since June, the community has been welcomed to dine out for lunch around The Hill School entrance every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This Wednesday’s afternoon café is the last one of the season so the Mercury Mile walk will be featured around the café’s location.

Participants of this week’s stroll should meet near The Hill School entrance noon Wednesday, Aug. 24, and use the address 865 E. High Street. The meeting spot is near the Eden Street intersection and across the street from Giuseppe’s Cafe & Pizzeria.Walkers will travel around the neighborhood for about a mile then end back at the café for lunch, if desired.

The social walk is meant to allow area residents to come together and learn about local events and opportunities. The café is one of several projects part of a larger Hobart’s Run initiative to revitalize the neighborhood. Other projects of the initiative include cleanups at Edgewood Cemetery and community bike rides beginning from the outdoor Pottstown farmers market. The next ride will be 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 starting from the intersection of Charlotte and High Streets. For about the neighborhood initiative, visit the website or the Facebook

Everyone’s invited to the walk on Wednesday including children and pets. Don’t hesitate to invite coworkers, friends and family. The more walkers we have, the merrier.

The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking and other fitness activities as a free exercise. Sometimes, different businesses or organizations host the weekly activity. The walk has travelled from one organization to the next encouraging people to walk at lunch and come together as a community. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange with one another.

Businesses that host The Mercury Mile will be featured in our “Businesses in Motion” section online and in the print newspaper. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at or call 610-850-0282 to schedule a time.

To find each week’s location, visit the Fit for Life website and like the Facebook page Walkers can also be added to The Mercury Mile email list by contacting Patterson. If there is inclement weather Wednesday afternoon then the walk will be cancelled. Look for updates about the walk on the Fit for Life Facebook page.
