2 Pottstown community events want people to show their basketball skills

POTTSTOWN >> People will have a chance to shoot some hoops this weekend at community events with basketball activities.

The 3rd Annual “Shoot the Lights Out on Cancer” event will be at The Hill School Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Hill School is located at 860 Beech St. The basketball activity is a fundraiser for cancer research. More than $16,000 was raised in the first two years of the event and the 2016 goal is $15,000.

The community event incudes a free throw shooting competition at The Hill School’s Field House. The cost is $10 for 10 free throws. Donations are also accepted. The raised funds go toward the Philly Coaches vs. Cancer Foundation. For more information or to sign up for the event, visit

Then later on Saturday, there will be a three on three basketball tournament at a Back to School Community Blockbuster. The free event will be at the Ricketts Center located at 640 Beech St. from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Children are encouraged to come and get free school supplies.

There will be giveaways as part of the basketball tournament and a lot of other fun for the whole family. The community block party will also have a hula hoop contest, live entertainment and food.
