POTTSTOWN >> Stop and smell the flowers this Wednesday with a short walk while learning about a Pottstown Community Field Day.
This week’s Mercury Mile will begin from the permaculture garden in Pottstown which is located at 301 Walnut St. The garden has many native plants including edibles like cherries. People are welcome to pick and eat. An outdoor mile walk will start from the garden noon Wednesday.
During the walk, participants will learn about a Community Field Day happening Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Genesis Housing along with several other organizations are providing families with a day of fun. The event will have music, healthy food samplings and plenty of fitness activities. The field day will be held at the Chestnut Street Park which is located at the intersection of Chestnut and Washington Streets.
The event will include several activity stations that will last about five minutes each. Everyone will have an opportunity to try each activity. A DJ will signal when it’s time for families to switch. After people complete each station then they’ll receive a token. Participants that complete 10 stations with equates to 45 minutes of exercise will get a free gift.
As of now, CustomFit Training, the Pottstown Athletic Club, Art Fusion 19464 and The Hill School will have volunteers managing activity stations. There will also be general activities like jump roping.
The event is still looking for additional vendors to organize an activity station as well as vendors who would just like to do an information table. Also organizers are still looking for donations of raffle prizes and gifts to give to family participants. For more information about the Aug. 27 field day event or if interested in being a vendor, contact Laura Washington at the email firstname.lastname@example.org. The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking and other fitness activities as a free exercise. Sometimes, different businesses or organizations host the weekly activity. The walk has travelled from one organization to the next encouraging people to walk at lunch and come together as a community. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange with one another.
