The community can win big prizes this summer such as a Fitbit tracker or a bike just for swimming, walking or playing at tri-county parks.
July is National Park and Recreation Month. To celebrate, the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation is doing their 3rd annual “On Your Park, Get Set, Go!” contest which ends this month. The contest is meant to encourage residents to visit area parks while also possibly helping their town park win up to $10,000 for improvements. Those that vote in the contest will be entered in weekly prize drawings.
Residents that visit their town park can easily vote for it by taking a selfie photo. Each person is allowed to take one selfie photo per day per park. The photo along with the name of the park that was visited then needs to be uploaded to the Mission Healthy Living Facebook page or emailed to OnYourPark@gmail.com.
“You simply won’t regret checking out the beautiful, fun and energizing neighborhood parks our region has to offer,” said Ashley Pultorak of the health foundation.
The regional contest first started in 2014 and was modeled after the national Coca-Cola Co. campaign “America is Your Park.”
Residents have the option to vote for 12 different municipality parks in this year’s local contest:

There are two ways parks can win this year. The park that receives the most votes throughout the month of July will win the Healthiest Park Prize challenge which comes with a $5,000 grant from the foundation. The runner-up will receive a $2,500 grant.
Different from previous years, people can now help their town park win by visiting other parks outside the municipality they reside in. The municipality park that has the most residents visiting their local park as well as the other 11 participating parks will win the Activity Challenge Prize. Just like the other park challenge, the winner gets a $5,000 grant from the foundation and the runner-up gets a $2,500 grant.
Last month, residents were asked to pre-register for tickets that can be used at all the regional parks in the contest to help their home park win the activity challenge. Each park has a white drop-off box where the tickets can be placed to vote. Along with the tickets, people who registered received a map of all the parks in the contest with descriptions of each. People that didn’t pre-register in June can still pick up ticket packets and maps at their municipal building but they are first come, first serve.
Once residents have their tickets, they will then have two ways to vote for their town park including the selfie option. The more someone votes for their park then the more chances they have at winning the weekly prizes. Participants can keep track of each park’s progress in the contest by liking the Mission Healthy Living Facebook and going to the “parks contest” tab.
