POTTSTOWN >> About 20 people breathed in and out while doing graceful tai chi movements during a free class at the Pottstown YMCA Saturday morning.
Tai chi is an ancient Chinese martial arts style originally developed for self-defense. Today, it’s often used as a form of exercise that incorporates mindfulness and meditation. Tai includes slow, gentle movements while focusing on the breath.
Saturday’s free class was part of a summer fitness series through a partnership with the Y and Fit for Life. This is the third summer the two organizations have come together to offer the community fun physical activities that the whole family can enjoy. The next free event is a family agility course 6:30 p.m. July 20 at Memorial Park in Pottstown. Then there will be a glow light Zumba party at the Coventry Mall Aug. 5 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
