POTTSTOWN >> Step it up at this week’s Mercury Mile and learn about a free community Zumba class happening at Memorial Park.
Everyone’s invited to a short 1-mile social walk noon Wednesday that will begin from The Mercury building located at 24 N. Hanover Street. There’s side-street parking available in the area. The community is encouraged to take a break from their day to appreciate the outdoors with a relaxing walk.
While on the walk, participants will learn about a free fitness class being offered to the public Wednesday evening. Zumba is a fun dance that incorporates fitness moves to music. Adults, children and families are more than welcomed to come out to dance at the Zumba party in the park. The Zumba class is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the Memorial Park pavilion area near the spray park. The entrance to the park is located near the intersection of Manatawny St. and W. 2nd St. Participants just need to bring workout clothes and tennis shoes. Water will be provided at the event. The free class is made possible by the Pottstwon YMCA, Fit for Life and the Pottstown Park & Recreation.
The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking and other fitness activities as a free exercise. Sometimes, different businesses or organizations host the weekly activity. The walk has travelled from one organization to the next encouraging staff to walk at lunch and inviting the community to join as well. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange with one another.
Businesses that host The Mercury Mile will be featured in our “Businesses in Motion” section online and in the print newspaper. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at email@example.com or call 610-850-0282 to schedule a time.
To find each week’s location, visit the Fit for Life websitepottsmercfit4life.com and like the Facebook page www.facebook.com/Mercfit4life. Walkers can also be added to The Mercury Mile email list by contacting Patterson. If there is inclement weather Wednesday afternoon then the walk will be cancelled.
