POTTSTOWN >> This week’s Mercury Mile walk is hitting the Schuylkill River Trail in Pottstown.
The trail is a beautiful place to walk while enjoying nature at the same time. Participants will meet at Riverfront Park, located at 140 College Drive, noon Wednesday. The park is next to the Schuylkill River Heritage Area building. The short exercise will take about 20 minutes and the only thing needed is good walking shoes. Invite friends, family and even pets to this community event.
The trail at Riverfront Park is the location for a couple of upcoming events. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly completed Pottstown RiverWalk Thursday at 5 p.m. The RiverWalk is a one-mile loop that connects to the trail. It includes interpretive signs along the trail about the woodlands, birds, outdoor recreation and more.
Another event happening at the park is the PDIDA 5K Run on Sunday morning. This is the 2nd year for the running event which is a fundraiser for the Pottstown Downtown Improvement District Authority. There will be food, music and fun after the race at Smith Family Plaza. For more information and to register, visit the website www.downtownpottstown.org.
The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking and other fitness activities as a free exercise. Sometimes, different businesses or organizations host the weekly activity. The walk has travelled from one organization to the next encouraging staff to walk at lunch and inviting the community to join as well. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange with one another.
Businesses that host The Mercury Mile will be featured in our “Businesses in Motion” section online and in the print newspaper. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 610-850-0282 to schedule a time.
To find each week’s location, visit the Fit for Life website pottsmercfit4life.wordpress.com and like the Facebook page www.facebook.com/Mercfit4life. Walkers can also be added to The Mercury Mile email list by contacting Patterson. If there is inclement weather Wednesday afternoon then the walk will be cancelled.
