“Do you wanna build a snowman? Come on let’s go and play.” These lyrics are from the very popular Disney movie “Frozen” and perfect words to sing after the Philadelphia region experienced heavy snowfall.
Children that spend a snow day being physically active can enter the free Fit Kids for Life Contest. Contest winners get their photo published in The Mercury newspaper, a $20 Schuylkill Valley Sports gift card (Coventry Mall location) and a free T-shirt. Up to three kids can win each contest.
The contest is absolutely free to enter and winners are announced every few weeks. It’s easy for parents to enter their children. They just have to email a photo of their kid doing an activity to email@example.com with the child’s first name and age. Photos can also be posted on the Fit for Life Facebook with the same information. To submit photos on Facebook, the user must first like the Fit for Life page.
The photo possibilities are endless. It just has to show a child being active during a snow day. Before this weekend, the winter had been pretty mild with hardly any snow. Now children can go outside to make snowballs, build a snowman or even go sledding. The fitness activities that can be done in the snow are numerous. Children can also show how they’re staying warm and active indoors; maybe by dancing or doing chores. . As long as the photo displays fitness then it counts. The deadline to submit photos is noon Wednesday, Feb. 3. The next contest winners will be announced Friday, Feb. 5, on the Fit for Life Facebook.
Each contest usually has a different activity theme such as sports activities, group activities and fitness on wheels such as bicycling. Parents who snap a photo of their child doing the contest’s specific activity, can then enter the photo. Parents can find out each activity theme by visiting the Fit for Life Facebook, Fit for Life website and the Fit for Life Twitter@MercFit4Life.
There can be up to three winners every contest because there are three age divisions. The categories are 2 to 6 years old, 7 to 12 years old and 13 to 18 years old.
After photos are submitted, they will be put into a Facebook photo album on Wednesday, Feb. 3, where voters can LIKE their favorite kid fitness photo. The album will be on the Fit for Life Facebook.
Voting for the contest will start 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, and end noon Friday, Feb. 5. After winners are announced on Friday, the next activity theme will also be announced.
