POTTSTOWN >> Walk down the garden path and learn about a borough contest at this week’s Mercury Mile at noon Wednesday.
Laura Washington, manager of the MOSAIC Pottstown community gardens, is once again hosting the lunchtime walk. Participants will meet at the 615 Chestnut St. garden 12 p.m. Wednesday. There is side street parking available along Chestnut Street. The walk will include a garden tour of community neighborhoods that have entered this year’sPottstown Home Garden Contest.
The contest is open to all borough residents and there are $2,500 in prizes available. There are categories for youth, adult and neighbor groups. The deadline to enter has been extended to July 3, 5 p.m. Beginners can easily enter the contest with container gardens, straw bale gardens, whiskey barrel gardens and more; all of which aren’t hard to start. For more information about the contest, visitmosaicclt.org/2015/03/18/mosaic-community-land-trust-community-gardens-3rd-annual-garden-contest or email Washington at firstname.lastname@example.org.
June is National Fruit and Vegetables Month as well as Great Outdoors Month. The community can get outside and plant healthy foods then enter the free contest for the chance to win money. Walkers that attend Wednesday’s Mercury Mile will learn more about the contest and other efforts of the MOSAIC Community Land Trust such as the edible garden park that was built on Walnut Street.
The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking as a free exercise. It also gives the community the opportunity to talk with area organizations. Each week, different businesses or organizations will host The Mercury Mile. The walk will travel from one organization to the next, encouraging staff to walk at lunch and inviting the community as well. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange. Find out what’s going on in the area and form new partnerships.
Businesses that host The Mercury Mile will be featured in our “Businesses in Motion” section online and in the print newspaper. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at email@example.com or call610-850-0282 to schedule a time.
To find each week’s location, visit the Fit for Life website pottsmercfit4life.wordpress.com and like the Facebook page www.facebook.com/Mercfit4life.
